60,000km Test

60,000km Test

1 year and 60,000kms for our test car

We are always pushing our products to the limits just to see what they can and can’t do. 12 months ago this 2011 Ford Fairmont Ghia had just past the 110,000Km mark when it came to our attention on how many Km’s this car drives each week which at that point in time was about 1500kms per week, sometimes more.

12 months on the car has past the 170,000km mark and time for us to have a really good look at the condition of the Hyperseal coating we put on. We had seen the car on and off during that time but it was just for a moment and it was usually plastered with roadworks mud and spattered insects or it had just come out of a automatic car wash and was looking like it was freshly coated with Hyperseal.

So looking at the numbers.

  1. The Average car gets driven 20,000kms per year and that is the top end number for the motoring.
  2. This Ford has therefore driven 3 years of Km’s and out getting hammered on country and city roads all within 1 year and usually not on the same roads.
  3. It was thought to have had over 50 car washes with 100% of them using harsh automatic carwash chemicals.

 The inspection

The car is a state rep’s car for the farming and hardware company called Fjord . We arranged for a visit and a wash with NDG Mega Gloss wash and a look, touch and feel of the paintwork. We also took the car to one of the local detailers for their opinion (truely unbiased opinions come from him)

But first before we washed

The car had taken a lot of large stone impacts on the Bonnet/Hood and there was a lot of insect splattering on the Bonnet and wing mirrors.

  1. Tar and other grime on the side doors
  2. After washing with Mega Gloss wash

60,000km Test 60,000km Test

After Washing with Mega Gloss wash

  1. All the grime and most of the insects came off with the washing
  2. The Mega gloss and super light refraction that Hyperseal imparts was still just as good as the day it was applied (the owner says that it looks back to new each time it is washed)
  3. We used NDG Bio Crystal magic to remove the remainder of the insects that were harder to remove and found that they had not compromised the Hyperseal protection and had just been baked on with the summer heated hot air flowing over them.
  4. We did a quick claybar on the bonnet and wing mirrors to remove any acid rain and diesel particle adhesions and as we had hopped for the car felt as smooth as it was shinny. (One of the features of Hyperseal is you can do spot repairs without special equipment or special skills).
  5. Once the inspection was over it was time to go out for a sunset photoshoot. (pics below)

The next test phase.

Considering that this car maybe sold within the next 12 months, it’s job is complete. For the effort the owner made in doing this long term test we will coat the car with a new layer of Hyperseal and this time we will do the rims which we didn’t get time to do 12 months ago. We will then ask the owner to take more photos of places he and his car go.

Summary

We are always surprised at how strong NDG Hyperseal is and here is an indisputable test that we had no influence over and the results are spectacular. The local detailer concurred with our observations pretty much work for word. Excellent. We are very thankful to Garry for doing this long term test.

RC Trophy Truck cuts loose

RC Trophy Truck cuts loose

Cutting loose is is a verbatim comment from the owner of this RC model of an electric powered Trophy Truck.

A kid in the neighbourhood came to us today and said he wanted to Nano his RC car to make it “Cut Loose” as he had heard that it makes old look new. Wow, this is a big statement from an under 10 year old boy. We certainly said yes you have come to the right place.

We did a photo shoot with the before both static and in action. Then we go to work on getting the job done.

Body removed and mega gloss wash, then a coat of Hyperseal. Simple but effective process.

We did notice that the gearbox sounded like it was dry running so we took a look and re-greased the gears and bushes and lubricated the drive shaft sliders.

Back together we did an after photo shoot and then hit the jumps and dirt for some action shots.

RC Trophy Truck cuts loose

Mission successful and another happy customer. We wonder how quickly this will get around this kids network and more requests come pouring in.

10 Years under a tree

Just when we thought we were going hard with the Mighty Starlet sitting in a front yard for 9 years we go one step further here with this 91 model Mazda 626 which sat in a front yard under a tree for 10 years.

The car came from a deceased estate and was inherited by one of the family members who had no interest in Mazdas.

We came across this car on a drive around and cold called the owner about what they wanted to do with the car. They were very happy to have someone take interest. We came to an agreement and started to photo log the car in situation.

What we found.

The car was sitting on small lino type tiles to stop flat-spotting. (good thinking on whoever parked the car)

The grass creepers had grown the entire length of the underside of the car

Passenger window was down

Steering wheel had a hole in grip

The car was serviced before it was parked

Clear coat was gone off the horizontal surfaces.

Parts needed

  1. Master window switch
  2. Right taillight
  3. Filters
  4. Drive belts
  5. Rear muffler
  6. Paint
  7. Steering wheel cover

    Starting the car

    1. We diluted the stale fuel by adding some fresh fuel into the tank
    2. Connected the Jumper leads
    3. Cranked with the coil lead earthed to get oil pressure then reconnected the coil lead and attempted to start the engine.
    4. The engine took a while to come to life and once again “Start Ya Bastard” was used to get a pulse which worked and the engine came to life
    5. The brake pedal was close to the floor so the rear brakes were the only ones working.
    6. We drove the car under it’s own power from under the tree for the first time in the 10 years.
    7. We towed the car to our driveway workshop to get into the NDG DIY process.

    Step one

    1. Removed all the grass from inside and under the car
    2. Pressure cleaned the car
    3. Wash the car in Mega Gloss wash & Claybar to take a look at the condition of the car.

Classic Bike reforms for the better

Classic Bike reforms for the better

Classic Bike reforms for the better

BSA Motorcycles were a common sight in the height of their production in the UK and were mostly sold, and loved in the British Commonwealth countries.

Nowadays the remaining ones are in the hands of enthusiasts who in most cases don’t just have one but several and they scour the web for parts for sale and for that every more elusive classic barn find. When they do it is cause for huge celebration within their clubs and amongst their friends and peers.

This bike is a 1950’s model BSA 500 Goldstar that usually sits in line with others of similar vintage BSA’s in dusty workshop in Australia.

We did the NDG coating service on this bike during a sunny winter’s day so it gave a strong feel of England’s spring or summer weather setting the stage for what we wanted to achieve.

The results were excellent. It is very hard to capture the results on camera but we can put in a comment from the owner when he returned to see the bike ” Is that the same bike?” That says it all.

Classic Bike reforms for the better

NDG products are excellent for all bikes but are finding the greatest traction in the classic & custom bikes, tourers and adventurer type bikes. They are easy to apply and to re-apply without any special preparation.

Order on line from our dropdown menus.

    What we did.

    1. Dusted the bike off with compressed air.
    2. Mega Gloss washed  the bike
    3. Claybar cleaned all accessible parts

    Tutankhamun’s Chopper resurrection

    Tutankhamun's Chopper resurrection

Tutankhamun would not be rolling in his tomb after we finished this bike. We think he would have his servants hand him his matching gold helmet so he could cruise the Nile boulevard at sunset.

We came across this bike in Dubai where we were looking to do a demo on a custom bike. We were given this bike which was an early 90’s bike that had some oxidisation and just dulled off in every way.

The real gold paper motifs were certainly dull and the chrome didn’t have any shine at all.

We got to work and gave it the NDG restoration process which takes some time as bikes are a lot harder than cars with all the exposed areas and tight spots to access. Everything is viewable to the beholder.

    Tutankhamun's Chopper resurrection

Three days later the bike is finished complete with NDG Self Healing coating on the painted surfaces and NDG Hyperseal on all the other surfaces for restoration and sealing in the goodness.

It kind of reminds us of the ancient embalming process where a lot of care and skill are used to restore and preserve for the future to come.

The results were beyond what anyone expected.

    Tutankhamun's Chopper resurrection

A true Showroom new look was achieved, once again.

The bike was taken to a auto show in Abu Dhabi and it won Custom bike of the show! This was against all new comers from all corners of the world.

    Tutankhamun would be well pleased.

    Outback Desert Testing

    Outback Desert Testing

With all our products we like to test them in the most extreme environments and there is no better place than Outback Australia.

The outback is an area that is known for a very sparse population, including animals that extends for thousands of Kms and miles in all directions.

Basically you are on your own.

    Outback Desert Testing

Our testing was our Hyperseal on a 1014 Toyota Prado that was one of 6 other cars that ventured into the outback.

The timing was not great as the outback had seen a lot of rain which turns a normally ultra dry desert into a series of many thousands of delta type water canals and mud, mud that seems to not end.

This was a great proving ground for our testing which in this car was our hyperseal polish and 2 weeks of punishment.

    Outback Desert Testing

    Outback Desert Testing

Copyright ©2016 Nano DG Singapore Pte Ltd.

    The test was a success.

After 2 weeks in test the Prado was basically clean.  The most noticable part was the windows that were not treated and had turned the typical red dust coating that is so typical of any trip outback.

The owner said” that the mid just beaded up the surface and when it rained just dropped off” and ” none of the others knew of any test coating on his car but all asked why his car seemed so clean” and that ” after driving through the salt bush dunes and being the lead car the typical pinstripes were not there but were on all the other cars, amazing”

    Outback Desert Testing

Hyperseal was tested with the objective of seeing how the product can withstand the rigours of offroad driving.

We didn’t anticipate the extreme weather but we are more than pleased with the results of this test.

Since this time we have seen a good progressive take-up of Hyperseal being used for SUV body work and their accessories.

    How to improve on perfection

    How to improve on perfection

    55 Chevy Hyperseal.

We are committed to developing our products to suit the Classic show cars maintenance which is a world of the least amount of times you need to touch, wash and or wax a car the better.

This is where NDG’s Hyperseal and Mega Gloss Wash come into a league of their own. We carried out a training day for the owner of a Classic and Muscle car renovation and High end spray painting business who also built and owns this superb example of a 55 Chevy coupe.

The end result on the Chevy training day was a long lasting super glassy finish, just the way you want it to be.  It looked superb in the late day sun and one of those moments where a picture cannot capture what you are seeing. We did try and some of the pics are below the video.

How to improve on perfection How to improve on perfection How to improve on perfection How to improve on perfection

    Training

After the normal preparation processes we trained the staff of High Gloss Spray Painting how to apply our products to show cars and specialty paint jobs; Mega Gloss Car Wash is a long lasting wash coating that lasts a month on normal use road cars. Show cars several months if not more and has excellent anti static properties to repel electrically charged dust particles. It also has good anti micro scratch properties (when someone leans on the paintwork it usually leaves micro scratches).   Hyperseal Mega Gloss and UV polish which is applied and finished like a normal polish and lasts 12 months on a normal use road car. For show cars 3 years can be achieved. Hyperseal has excellent UV resistance properties and can resist some heavy handling scratches. But the big feature for show cars is that it has a glass like gloss finish.

    Show Car

    • Here is a story of the car winning awards at the Summernats in Canberra.
    • NDG will be supporting this Chevy show car when it attends events.

Some more news on the Chevy.

After the win in Tamworth in May where the car was trailered on an open trailer for 4.5hours, Bill says that he “was surprised that there was no effort in getting the car prepared for the show after the drive”.

We are sure that there will be more news on this car.

Another win for the Chevy with Hyperseal finish.

    Road test across the USA

    Road test across the USA

    Road test across the USA

For this Blog , Road test across the USA, we will give you a look at one of the many ways we test our products prior to launching any of them to market. We took one of our US based cars to a drive across the USA from Fort Lauderdale, Florida to the Pacific coats in Los Angeles to test the beta version of Hyperseal, long life tire shine and leather care.

For this we coated the car front to back on the driver’s side with Hyperseal and the Windshield with Shield 120  and the tires with Long life tire shine which were applied the day we were leaving. To prove a point (that NDG Hyperseal is a DIY product) we did the application in a normal household garage using the basic tools of car detailing.

    Road test across the USA

To start we put our feet into the warm waters of the Atlantic ocean as we plan to do the same thing when we arrive at the Pacific Ocean.   We started in a typical Florida super-low cell storm to flooded roads and multiple end to end car crashes all around us to early hour pushing through Alabama where sleepless drivers suffering from micro-sleeping leave the dead straight freeways and roll over (we have seen this every time we do this drive).

Road test across the USA Road test across the USA

On sunrise we arrive on the Texas, Louisiana border where we have a good look at the X5’s condition. It’s turning into the real Dr. Jekyll and Mr Hyde with the drivers side soiled but no where near the condition of the passenger side which was sporting the typical overnight driving look with splattered bugs and dirty road spray. We pushed on to west Houston for a lunch break and to resupply before hitting the every boring drive to San Antonio to visit the Alamo and get a few key photos. From San Antonio we hit the hill country and then into the central and west Texas desert, stopping overnight at Fort Stockton for a bit of shut eye.

Road test across the USA Road test across the USA

    Road test across the USA

Morning came and the heat was already waiting for the next leg to El Paso by mid afternoon for a refuel, lunch and then push onto Tucson Arizona to our USA Head Office location for a good look at what the drive has dished up so far. Next day we loaded up and continued starting about 1pm for the more rustic part of the drive via Phoenix AZ and then into the High desert plains to Thousand palms for a camp out beneath the stars and a typical cowboy campfire meal.

Road test across the USA Road test across the USA

    Road test across the USA

Next morning we pushed to get to the Pacific by Midday where we symbolically put our feet into the much cooler water of the Pacific ocean.

Looking at the X5 BMW there was a stark difference between each side of the car so it was an excellent test bed for analysing the results and in this case ultimately improving Hyperseal and Shield120 and the Long life tire shine.

We carry out many tests all over the world all the time. Some of these we will blog about from time to time.

Daily Ride Rescue an Audi A3

Daily Ride Rescue an Audi A3

    The Challenge

For this Blog we are taking a 1999 Audi A3 1.8 daily commuter that has been driven to work, parked (in the wrong places) and driven home again each night. The result is not a bad car with low KM’s for it’s age 188,000 kms.

We plan to take this car from a sorry state to a Mega gloss finish with a clean hydrophobic interior with everything working in sound condition in 7 days. We paid AUS $1500/$US1200 for the car.

Our objective is to sell it for AUS$4500/US$4000 with 12 months Australian registration included.

    Day 1

The purchase and then the assessment. Car was bought from a foreign student who’s tenure was completed in Australia and it was time to return home. We washed the car with Mega Gloss car wash so we could do an assessment of what is needed to achieve out goals.

    Things wrong.

    1. Hood lining separated ( a common problem for German cars in hot climates)
    2. Many small dents
    3. Scuff marks on the front Bumper

    11. Headlights are hazy
    12. Glove box hinge broken
    13. CD cover missing
    14. Not registered for road use
    15. ABS light on and a clunk when applying brakes. (sounds like a loose brake calliper and on checking there are new brake pads so this is possible)
    16. 2 x tyres needed

    Day 2

    1. Firstly to find out what that noise is when braking.
    2. Count the number of small dents in the paintwork and arrange the paintless dent removal tools
    3. Reattach plastic trim pieces
    4. Repair glovebox hinge
    5. Clean engine bay
    6. Order hoodlining trim (possible a change of colour to black)
    7. Remove all wheels and clean rims and apply NDG Extreme Hydrophobic Shield

    9. Clean Carpet and apply NDG Fabcare
    10. Apply NDG Shield 120 to all glass surfaces
    11. Start the paint restoration process

    Day 3

After a morning at a photoshoot with the Barn Yard rescue Mercedes which was invited to attend the official photoshoot for the reopening of a Drive-in theatre after 33 years of abandonment. (just a one off event) it was back to theDaily Ride Rescue Audi.

    Work completed:

    1. Paint correction and colour coded touch-ups.
    2. Re-apply underbody paint to doorsills
    3. Re-buff the bodywork with Rotary machine and waffle pad
    4. Vacuumed interior
    5. Repaired plastic trims
    6. Cleaned all door trims

    Day 4.

Getting closer to finishing you always need to ask yourself it you are putting too much into the project. In this case probably the answer in “Yes” but the results we are getting from this A3 are excellent. We did remove the Headlights and repaired a broken mounting tab and cleaned lenses and reflectors which always gives a car that new look. Now the remaining jobs are Re-trim the hood-lining and to remove the remaining small dents.

    Work completed:

    1. Restoration of headlights
    2. Removed tape holding down re-glued trims
    3. Vacuum the car
    4. Repainted the battery clamp

    Day 5.

The new RH lower control arm arrived and was fitted without any issue. The car has been taken by a journalist who it driving it until the headlining material arrives where the interior will be removed and seats will be cleaned and coated in NDG Fabcare while the headlining is being re-trimmed. If we have enough material left we will also trim the door and side panel inserts. We took the car for a drive to settle in the suspension and check for any noises. We got a nice video of NDG Shield120 in action. The remaining dents will be removed on the final day of the work. This is turning out to be a nice car.

    Work completed:

    1. Lower control arm fitted
    2. Smaller dents removed

    Day 6:

Now the hard part of this rescue project. Replace and treat the trim with NDG Fabcare. First we needed to remove the Hood-lining and inserts on the door trim and back seats areas. No-one put their hands up for this job as it there is no fun in doing this work on an older car. clips break and plastic is brittle so a hot glue gun needs to be on hand to repair this inevitable breakages.  But outside of this the replacements went straight forward enough and the car just looks that much better. We all think we did a better job of trim colours than the Audi Factory. We noticed that there was a small coolant leak and on closer inspection saw that an o-ring was leaking so we replaced it. The AC was a bit weak so one of our staff have an AC service license and got that sorted out along with a medium pressure clean of the condenser to improve the temperature drawdown.

    Work completed:

    1. Straighten the steering wheel
    2. Replace the Hoodlining
    3. Replace the door and side panel trim inserts
    4. replace the Temperature sensor o-ring
    5. Service AC system.

Daily Ride Rescue an Audi A3

The End result is that we all like this car and if it wasn’t a project car we would keep it.  It turned out great!.  Maybe we put too much effort into is car but it was a case of everything we did just made it a nicer car. Now to sell it to someone who will enjoy it.

    Ford XY Wedding Day

Ford XY Wedding Day, An Australian classic muscle car is getting ready for a wedding

Ford XY Wedding Day, An Australian classic muscle car is getting ready for a wedding

An Australian classic muscle car is getting ready for a wedding but it was looking a bit dull.

We were asked to give it the once over with NDG’s Champion, Hyperseal.

After looking at the car and doing a few tests it was decided not to Compound polish the paintwork as the car had been resprayed and not done that well. Plus, the pin-stripes had just been installed so the risk of damaging the paintwork and stripes was too high to do a full compound polish so we decided to DA polished the safe areas with NDG Genesis Compound and clay-bar’d the rest of the bodywork using NDG Mega Gloss Wash as the lubricant.

Even with these challenges we achieved the desired results.

The weather had been great so far,  but, had been forecast to turn cold and rainy  during the day. Just as we were about to Hyperseal the car the weather turned cold and rainy.

It was a good demonstration to show that Hyperseal is not affected by cold or inclement weather so we just carried on applying the coating.

On finishing the car the owner got the classic car owner fever with wanting to do more to the car as it was looking great.  The rear spoiler needed some TLC so it was removed for restoration  which gave us the opportunity to do some more work on the trunk lid.

We had a ball working on this iconic piece of Aussie motoring and, we loved the way the car came out with it’s rich burgundy colour shinning and contrasting against the big Australian sky.

Yes the wedding went ahead without a hitch.

NDG Hyperseal is a great  Champion all-rounder Specialty surface coating for cars with superior UV resistance and 1 to 3 years service.
